Two Follow-on Projects: Scaling Investment Promotion across WA Agrifood sectors

Part 2A

Industry Snapshot Reports for Seven Additional Agri-Sectors

Building on the strong response to the original sector reports, DPIRD commissioned Coriolis to produce investment-focused snapshot reports across seven additional agrifood sectors. These sectors needed tailored insights, compelling sector narratives, and clear investment opportunities.

2B

Business Opportunity Outlines (BOOs)

While sector snapshots provided a valuable overview, DPIRD wanted to go deeper. The goal was to identify specific, actionable investment opportunities and answer critical questions:

  • What are the real investment gaps in WA’s agrifood system?

  • How can we support value-added growth?

  • What types of investors are best suited to each opportunity?

What we did

Part 2A: Industry Snapshots

  • Conducted stakeholder interviews across each sector to validate investment narratives and ground the insights in regional realities

  • Analysed market trends, export potential, value chain gaps, and sector competitiveness

  • Identified specific investment opportunities within each sector

  • Created concise, visually engaging snapshot documents—essentially mini-investment pitches—to promote each sector

Part 2B: Business Opportunity Outlines

  • Gathered a pool of 26 potential investment ideas from industry engagement, previous reports, and internal DPIRD priorities

  • Ran each idea through a multi-criteria screening process to evaluate commercial potential, sector alignment, capital needs, and scalability

  • Conducted interviews with target investors to test concepts and understand their investment criteria

  • Engaged with local businesses to assess readiness and identify capital gaps

Output

Part 2A Industry Snapshots

For each of the seven sectors, Coriolis produced:

  • A summary investment report tailored for investors

  • An accompanying presentation deck

  • A data room with detailed background resources

  • Spreadsheets for internal use to keep data updated and dynamic

These materials have become foundational resources for investment promotion and stakeholder engagement in Western Australia.

Part 2B: Business Opportunity Outlines

Each BOO included:

  • A succinct investment pitch, including sector metrics, market growth forecasts, and WA’s unique competitive advantages

  • Investor suitability profiles, to match each BOO with appropriate investor types (e.g., private equity, strategic buyers, international agri players)

  • A Stakeholder Engagement Strategy to guide DPIRD’s outreach and prioritisation

  • Supporting data and insights to give DPIRD the tools to confidently pitch the opportunities

DPIRD now uses these BOOs as part of its international investment attraction strategy, distributing them across trade offices, inbound investor delegations, and industry events.
