CASE STUDY #2

Western Australia seeks to promote and attract investment into the Agrifood and beverage sectors

 Client

Problem

Western Australia has world-class agricultural and natural resources—but the state was struggling to attract meaningful investment in its agrifood and beverage sectors, especially in value-added processing. Despite its potential, the region lacked the visibility and targeted messaging needed to stand out in a competitive global investment landscape.

Solution

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) engaged Coriolis to develop sector-specific investment reports that would:

  • Attract new investment by highlighting the strengths and opportunities in the region

  • Serve as a credible foundation for investment promotion efforts

  • Provide clear, data-backed insights into the two largest sectors in WA:

    • Meat

    • Arable Crops

Coriolis was chosen for our sector expertise, analytical depth, and ability to turn complex market dynamics into clear, investor-ready insights.

What we did

This project involved:

  • Extensive stakeholder engagement across government, industry, and research communities

  • Deep market analysis including:

    • Macroeconomic drivers

    • Global and local production trends

    • Market share dynamics

    • Trade flows and competitive positioning

  • Identification of emerging investment themes in each sector

  • Profiling of key firms to help investors understand the ecosystem and identify partnership or acquisition targets

Output

The resulting reports served as a practical resource for both new and existing investors, helping them quickly grasp the landscape and identify actionable opportunities.

For each sector, the project delivered two key outputs:

  • An in-depth, data-rich report detailing market dynamics, sector performance, and investment opportunities

  • A concise snapshot document, designed for broader distribution and use in investor outreach, including international trade offices

These materials were distributed across government, industry, and investor networks, both domestically and abroad.

Outcomes

As is often the case in public sector initiatives, it’s difficult to attribute new investment directly to a single project. However, the reports have become foundational reference tools in Western Australia’s investment promotion efforts.

They have contributed to raising the region’s profile among investors and supported the narrative that Western Australia is open for business in agrifood and value-added sectors. Investment activity is now occurring, and WA is firmly on the radar of both domestic and international investors.
